About SUSU: Facilities

So we offer you lots of ways to make the most of your uni experience, make sure your voice is heard and keep you supported, but what about the day-to-day stuff? It’s also our job to look after your Union Café and Shop, that way we can make sure you’re getting the best possible deals on everything you could ever need.

SUSU Café & Shop

The newly refurbished Cafe SUSU is a great place to enjoy delicious food for breakfast, lunch and dinner, or just drop by for a coffee and cake to work in the comfy new study areas. We also have free wireless internet access and plug sockets for laptops.

Situated on the Highfield campus the Students’ Union Shop is there to cater for all your consumer needs. The shop has a range of everyday goods available for purchase at student friendly prices, including a range of foods, newspapers, confectionary and stationery.

Room Bookings

The Media Resources room is where the Wessex Scene and union web site are produced. The room contains PCs and Apple Mac's with design software, scanners, digital cameras, a video editing suite and a printer which can print A3 posters.

The room can be booked by all union members, for society or club purposes, as long as it is not in use by the Wessex Scene or web teams. The room is in Building 42 at the Highfield Campus. If you want to use the Media Resources room, get in touch with your VP Media & Comms. at vpcomms@susu.org.

If you want to book any other rooms within the union, then you can do this through the reception desk in the Students’ Union (Building 42).

Mini Bus Hire

The Union has access to five Ford Transit minibuses that are available for all union clubs or societies to hire; the only constraint is that each club or society must have a union registered minibus driver. Anyone over the age of 21 with a minimum of 3 years driving experience can become a minibus driver, you will just have to sit a short driving test – e-mail minibus@soton.ac.uk.

Your club secretary will book the Minibus at the Student Activities Office. You will need to complete a yellow booking form (these are available on the bus noticeboard just outside the student activities office). The completed form should be handed to The Students’ Union reception, they will allocate a bus to you if one is free. It is important to note that the eventual driver nominated on the front of the booking form collects the keys.

You should specify which bus you would like. For long journeys (over 100 miles roundtrip) we recommend that you have one of the new buses with forward facing seats. For sports fixtures you will probably be allocated one of the older buses. If you intend towing please note this on the application form so that the towing electrics can be checked before you pick the bus up.
