SUSU provides a great nightlife, with a range of treats including The Cube, a 1700-capacity nightclub; The Stag’s Head, your union bar; The Bridge Bar, offering you alternative evenings in jazz, comedy and live music, and the Uniplex, a 330 seat cinema. We take pride in making sure the best events are put on at your Halls Bars as well. They’re all the cheapest, closest and safest nights out around.
Our very own 1700-capacity club, The Cube, has endless possibilities and here at SUSU it’s all about you.
The Cube is different from anywhere else because it actually belongs to the students. You are in charge of the place, and decide what nights you want. You can pick how they’ll look, sound and what they’ll feel like. It’s all worked out at Events Forum, and SUSU makes it a reality.
Wednesday is the night for sports clubs and societies as The Cube hosts the outrageous Frat Party, ‘I ♥ College’. Think beer pong and cheerleaders. Find out more about I ♥ College.
Friday nights have a new flavour, with ‘Twisted’, an event bringing you everything you could want from a Friday night, with a twist. The introduction of a new entrance and VIP area has transformed The Cube, so make sure you get in on the action. Find out more about Twisted.
On Saturdays, external promoters move in to the Cube, to bring a different type of Saturday night out each week. ‘Glamour Puss’ sees huge themed events, loads of giveaways, the finest DJs and the best club décor. Look out also for some local clubs and bars hitting The Cube every week with their own plans for your Saturday nights.
With all this on offer the Cube looks set to take Southampton by storm so head on down for some truly memorable nights.
The Bridge Bar is our sophisticated cocktail bar. On alternate Mondays we have the ‘Juke Joint’, a relaxed evening with live jazz music courtesy of the Southampton University Jazz Orchestra. One Monday every month, AIM (the Alternative and Indie Music Society) runs ‘Frequency’ – a night at the Bridge where they showcase the best in live local indie talent, as well as acoustic acts and DJs.
See yourself as more of a headbanger? We also run ‘Subliminal’ each month on a Monday, bringing you the very best in Rock, Metal, Punk, Industrial and all other alternative music.
Tuesdays alternate between the open mic night ‘The Living Room’ and ‘The Laughter Lounge – a highly popular evening of comedy at The Bridge Bar which in the past has included big names from the comedy circuit including Michael McIntyre, Russell Howard and Rufus Hound.
Your Union’s pub, The Stag’s Head, is located right in the heart of campus and brings you drinks at the lowest prices around. Open throughout the week, it has a buzzing atmosphere and is a great place to meet friends either at the end of the day for evening drinks, or just between lectures for lunch.
Look out for 2 for 1 pizza deals, Karaoke on Thursday nights, and regular screenings of live sport.
Your Students’ Union is also in charge of the student bars in University halls of residence. This means that we can make sure that they’re serving the best-priced drinks, and being used in the way that you want. Whether your JCR is putting on an event, you’re using the venue to pre-drink before a night out, or you’re a second or third year student returning for a few drinks, then your halls bars – run and staffed by students – will be there catering for your social needs.
SUSU is one of the only Students’ Unions to have its own, student-run cinema. Union Films brings you mainstream films at a fraction of the price of local cinemas. Union Films also hosts themed months and shows a vast selection of classic and independent cinema. Visit www.unionfilms.org for upcoming films, or email uf@susu.org to find out how you can help run it.
The Events Box Office is situated on level 3 of the Students' Union building, next to the entrance to the Cinema. You can also buy tickets online at boxoffice.susu.org.
