Southampton Hub
Southampton Hub is a branch of the national charity Student Hubs, offering volunteering opportunities within the local community. We run seven exciting programmes that anyone can get involved in, alongside socials, fundraisers and one-off volunteering opportunities!
Southampton Hub is transforming students' involvement with social and environmental challenges in Southampton and around the world. We are a catalyst, facilitating more students to do more, more effectively and for longer. We are part of Student Hubs, a national network with the mission to create a culture change in UK universities so that student-powered social change becomes the norm and not the exception. We inspire students about their power and potential to shape a better world; connect them to opportunities to make a difference during their time at university, and support them to become civic leaders in their future lives and careers.
- Schools Plus helps young people to achieve their academic potential by matching them with university student tutors.
- Libraries Plus is a branch of Schools Plus, with homework clubs hosted at local libraries by university student tutors.
- Branch Up supports local disadvantaged 7-11 year old children by connecting them with student mentors on activity days.
- Empower is a 1:1 mentoring scheme which matches university student mentors with school students at risk of academic pressures.
- Invent Plus is an engineering outreach project that inspires primary school children with fun workshops.
- Inspire, Debate, Change is a citizenship programme for 9-13 year olds to engage them with UK politics
- BioCycle is Southampton's first student-led food waste recycling scheme!
Our vision is a society in which every student engages with social and environmental challenges during their time at university, empowering them to become active citizens for life.
Our mission is to mainstream student social action, supporting a new generation of active citizens to achieve positive change now and in the future.
