The purpose of our group is to signpost advice services and support in regards sexual assault, abuse, and rape. We want to promote safe sex and to raise awareness about these issues, with a particular focus on sexual consent. .
About Sexual Consent Awareness
The Sexual Consent Awareness Committee is a student led movement. We aim to educate and encourage learning about sexual consent; act as a signposting service for suvivors of sexual assault and rape; use our platform to do some myth busting within the conversation (such as combating male sexual assault, LGBT+ and BAME awareness), and at the same time, lobbying support systems and reporting tools to be more efficient.
Since we have been active, we have reached a wide following on facebook at @scasoton, and have since created a discussion/debate page for people to learn about all the different topics within the conversation, which you can find at @scadiscuss.
We have also collected over 150 #breakthesilence pledges, and have involved sports teams, coordinators, sabbatical officers and students from all walks of life.
We are also in planning to conduct a university wide investigation to ensure we can adequately improve support services for different students, including LGBT+ awareness and cultural competency with BAME students, and be more efficient in supporting survivors.
