Peer Support is a confidential listening service delivered by students for students. It provides an informal opportunity to talk through any issues that may be concerning you.
Perhaps you are feeling homesick or lonely, maybe the stress of university life is getting to you or you just need someone to moan to. The peer supporters are willing to listen to you and take time to understand what is on your mind.
We can support you in various ways that range from remote support to face to face meetings.
You can meet with a peer supporter on a 1 to 1 basis at a time and place that works for you. You may want to sit in the Bridge and chat or go for a walk around Highfield. It’s up to you how often you meet – sometimes once will be enough, sometimes you may want to meet them several times. To contact a peer supporter email email@example.com. If you would rather talk with a peer supporter over the internet you can use our Skype account. We are often available on Skype in the evenings or you can email to request a Peer Supporter to come online and chat via text, voice or video call. We are called peersupport_1 on Skype.
We also hold drop in sessions around the University and in the Advice Centre where you can informally chat with a Peer Supporter or arrange a one to one meeting.
We are a trained group of students, ranging from 1st year to Post-Graduates. We attend regular supervision and have received extensive training by a therapist. We are able to listen in a non-judgemental way; we are not counsellors but we can signpost you to further support if required.
