The Students' Union is at the forefront of student media with its industry-standard and popular media departments, all of which form a part of our Creative Industries zone. We offer opportunities in journalism, radio, and television to any student no matter their prior skill or experience.
Broadcasting over the airwaves live during Freshers Fortnight and the lead up to the Students' Union elections, listening to Surge is a great way to keep updated on the latest new music and Union activities. With previous Surge DJs interviewing the likes of Frank Turner, Drenge, Wolf Alice, and The Maccabees, getting involved with the Surge means you could be meeting some top class bands for yourself.
If you're a budding journalist then sign up for the increasingly expanding News Team, bringing students weekly news bulletins on a range of relevant topical issues. If you see yourself as more of a music boff then sign up to become a regular radio DJ with your own show or join the Music Team where you will get to interview bands, run your own Surge sessions and get to go to gigs for free. SUSUtv is the Union's student-run TV station. Launched in 2007, it looks to build on your creativity and guide you through the processes involved in making high-quality television.
In 2010 SUSUtv set a new standard for all Students' Unions around the country as they became the first to broadcast elections night live in HD. Over 6200 people from over 24 different countries watched the elections live online, as your sabbatical team for 2010/ 11 were elected. The team reached unprecedented heights, leaving many amazed; Brighton Students' Union tweeted saying they were "absolutely astounded" by the quality of show.

The Edge is our very own entertainment magazine, covering everything from live music and film to gaming and TV, to entertainment news and reviews.
