1. Welcome and introduction

Trini Philip welcomed everyone to the first meeting of the year and the affiliation process was briefly explained to the Committee.

2. Zone/Support package change requests

a. African and Caribbean Society 

The African Caribbean Society requested to change their support package to Blue. As they were already on the Blue package, this was APPROVED.

b. British Sign Language

British Sign Language requested to move from Sustainability Zone to Education Zone. There was a discussion about whether societies in Education Zone needed to be course related, but it was agreed that the society could fit in either. The request was APPROVED.

c. Travelling Society

Travelling Society requested to move from External Engagement Zone to Student Communities Zone. This request was APPROVED.

d. Pole Fitness

Pole Fitness requested to change their name to Southampton University Aerial Sports Society. This was APPROVED.

3. Affiliations
  • Nigerian Society

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to Student Communities Zone.

  • Fine Dining Society

This group did not attend the affiliation meeting and therefore were NOT AFFILIATED. This was the second meeting they had not attended and so their application was rejected.

  • University of Southampton Wrestling Club

This group did not attend the affiliation meeting and therefore were NOT AFFILIATED.

  • Southampton University Hungarian Society

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to Student Communities Zone.

  • Serve Your Heart Out

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to External Engagement Zone. The Committee suggested that the aims in their constitution needed further clarity, the group agreed to do this.

  • Southampton University Business Society

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to Education Zone.

  • SBS PGR Society

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to Education Zone. The Committee requested that they become the Postgraduate SBS Society, rather than restricting themselves to PGR students, the group agreed to do this.

  • Students for Europe Society

After some discussion over the longevity of the society, it was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to Sustainability Zone.

  • Maritime Robotics Student Society

It was decided that this group did not meet the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was NOT AFFILIATED.

  • Student Robotics (Southampton)

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to External Engagement Zone.

  • RoboSoc

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to Education Zone. The Committee suggested that they should change their name to distinguish themselves from Students Robotics.

  • Cameroon Catalyst

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to External Engagement Zone.

  • Universities Allied for Essential Medicines Southampton

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to External Engagement Zone.

  • Maritime Law Society

This group did not attend the affiliation meeting and therefore were NOT AFFILIATED.

  • Southampton University Kendo

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to Sports Development Zone.

  • Social Impact

This group did not attend the affiliation meeting and therefore were NOT AFFILIATED.

  • ECS Entrepreneurs

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to External Engagement Zone.

  • Accelerate into Banking

This group did not attend the affiliation meeting and therefore were NOT AFFILIATED.

  • Genetics and Rare Diseases Society

This group did not attend the affiliation meeting and therefore were NOT AFFILIATED.

  • Southampton University Olympic Weightlifting Club

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to Sports Development Zone.

  • Croquet Society

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to Sports Development Zone.

  • The HMPR Society

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to Education Zone.

  • Egyptian Society

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to Student Communities Zone.

  • WSA YOGA

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED.

  • Hookers, Stitchers and Knitters

It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. This group was AFFILIATED.

 

Any Other Business

Michael brought up that it would be a good idea to set up a Facebook group for the Committee to communicate with each other easily. It was agreed that this was a good idea. Michael also said that he was experiencing problems with accessing the admin page for his groups. It was explained that this was an issue was currently being looked into and should be resolved soon.

Katie reported that there were plans to review the way funding is allocated to student groups in the Sports Development Zone and that she would bring a paper about it to the next meeting.
