The Students' Union is run by students, for students. Every year we run three elections to elect our team of over 750 student volunteers who represent students at Southampton.

Autumn Elections

Nominations are open from Monday 23 September, 09:00 until Tuesday 08 October, 13:00.

Voting is open from Wednesday 09 October, 09:00 until Friday 11 October, 13:00.

You can hit the ground running by standing as a Course Representative. In this role you will be one of our most vital volunteers forging a link between your cohort and staff at the Union and University. For more information about this role, please see the role description here: Course Rep Role Description .

Our Postgraduate Taught Representatives are brand new this year. After lobbying the University for more representation for our Postgraduate community, and a successful first year for our Postgraduate Research Representatives, we are delighted to now have student voices on University boards at all levels of study.

We also elect our Union Senators at this time of year. Union Senate is our highest decision making body, with oversight of our rules, policy and procedures. As a Union Senator, you will scrutinise the work the Sabbatical Officers do throughout the year to ensure they are continuing to represent, collaborate with and celebrate our student population. If you are interested in how the Union runs this could be the perfect role for you! For more information, please see the role description here: Union Senator Role Description

  • Why get involved in our Elections?

Standing as a candidate provides you with experience and employability skills before you have even taken on the role. Putting together your nomination and campaigning for the vote of students demonstrates public speaking, social media marketing, networking and project management skills. If you are successful, you will have full training with the Union, so don't worry if you don't have any previous experience. The work you do through the year will improve student life for thousands of students across all our campuses and you will gain recognition for your work along the way.

Voting in our elections is one of the key ways you can make your voice heard by the Union. The student officers and academic reps we work with each year represent all students and inform projects and activities at the Union. If you aren't running for a role yourself, you can still be involved by following the elections campaigns and voting for the candidate that you feel best represents you.

Talking to our officers and reps throughout the year ensures they know about your concerns or ideas about student life at Southampton, and means we can work towards any positive changes students want to implement. You can find information about your elected representatives here: Academic Reps and Student Officers.
