The Students' Union is run by students, for students. Every year we run three elections to elect our team of over 750 student volunteers who represent students at Southampton.
We have eleven Halls Officers who work together with our volunteer Block Reps to represent the specific needs and interests of students living in halls and private rented accommodation. They will act as a liaison between students and the University while working alongside SUSU to ensure that the student experience in halls is the best that it can be.
They will meet and work regularly with our Halls Officer and our Union President to ensure that our overarching aims and projects are in line with what our students would like to see. If you are interested in this role, you can find out more about the responsibilities in the role description here
There are a number of roles that are still vacant after the close of Autumn Elections. This includes some of our School and Department Presidents, Postgraduate Representatives and Senators. If you are interested in one of these roles the list of what is available can be found below. You can also contact us for more information at elections@susu.org
Standing as a candidate provides you with experience and employability skills before you have even taken on the role. Putting together your nomination and campaigning for the vote of students demonstrates public speaking, social media marketing, networking and project management skills. If you are successful, you will have full training with the Union, so don't worry if you don't have any previous experience. The work you do through the year will improve student life for thousands of students across all our campuses and you will gain recognition for your work along the way.
Voting in our elections is one of the key ways you can make your voice heard by the Union. The student officers and academic reps we work with each year represent all students and inform projects and activities at the Union. If you aren't running for a role yourself, you can still be involved by following the elections campaigns and voting for the candidate that you feel best represents you.
Talking to our officers and reps throughout the year ensures they know about your concerns or ideas about student life at Southampton, and means we can work towards any positive changes students want to implement. You can find information about your elected representatives here: Academic Reps and Student Officers.
In our Autumn we hold elections for our academic roles and then separately we also elect our Halls Officer roles.
Our Spring Elections are the loudest and most visible of all our elections! Your vote really does count in this exciting race to be the next leaders of the Union. During Spring Elections we elect our 5 Sabbatical Officers, plus our Student Officers, Student Trustees and WSA Committee roles.
During Summer Elections we elect our School and Department Presidents for each Faculty at the University.
