2. Minutes from last meeting

The minutes of the previous meeting were accepted. 

3. Actions from previous meeting

Prevent agenda and response will be taken forward further in the year.

4. Officer reports

Nightline Officer - Nightline is doing well. Top trends, sex, stress exams and flat mate issues. Instant messaging down due to marketing issue. Call volume was down on last year, partly due to capacity due to decrease in continuing volunteers. Second intake of volunteers will happen in Jan. Tiarzah attended the National Nightline conference.

 

Housing Officer - Don’t Rush going well. Christmas video recorded and ready to go out. Timing of Don’t Rush was good this year. Good feedback from students was garnered by several members of the committee.

5. VP Welfare report

David reported that he had had to take some time off and and didn't have a lot to update upon. The Student Support Symposium had gone ahead and been a success. The Vice Chancellor attended and there was a lot of networking between the student support services in attendance. 

6. Open Places

There were no candidates for the available open places.

7. Zone Review Proposal

The zone discussed the idea of taking the Equality remit from the Sustainability Zone and putting it in the Student Life zone. This was met with broad approval and several committee members thought that this would open up some valuable areas of collaboration. 

The name of the zone was also discussed. The committee were again in agreement that the name was too broad and that should be changed. Renaming the zone as the "Welfare Zone" was the choice of the comittee for a name change. 

VP DCI and VP Welfare agreed to come back to the committee with a new proposal of changing the zone based on the discussion had.

8. Housing Week 2017

Plans for housing week are well under way. The main event will be a housing fayre on Wednesday 1st February to coicide with the release of the SASSH house list.

9. You Are More Than Your Degree update

VP Education gave an update on the plans for You Are More Than Your Degree 

10. The price increases in Halls of Residence

No one from the halls committee could be present at the meeting so it was decided that Alex would bring the matter to the Halls Committee directly.

11. Mental Health Campaign update

David is working with the University to better promote joint services, the Student Support Symposium was one of the first steps of that and there will be a more integrated means of communicating means of students finding support launching next year. This will be integrated into the MySouthampton app. 


12. Senate representative

Tirzah put herself forward for the role of Student Life Zone senate representative and was elected.

13. Student Groups funding

Student groups funding was decided by the committee and and will be relayed to the relevant groups.

Decision Funding was allocated to groups.
14. Any other business

No other business was brought to the meeting.
