Media Committee
8. 18-19

ER opens up and asks the zone (particularly those involved in media) what they feel media committee is useful for, and if it's worth continuing over next year?

DR: Only thing it's useful for is organising Media Ball, and this year it happened without the need for regular committee meetings

JB: Media should be left to CI Zone - perhaps a section within zone meetings for media

ER: Elect a media ball head as part of CI zone?

Media Ball 2018 feedback: invite Becca (Media Committee Events Officer 2017-18) to next CI zone meeting in addition to media ball committee.

(to cover venue feedback, menu / drinks prices, budget)

Decision Keep the provision of media committee in case it should happen around particular events, but overall, keep it centralised around CI zone.
Action Invite Becca (Media Committee Events Officer 2017-18) to next CI zone meeting in addition to media ball committee. (Evie Reilly, Jamie Ford)
Student Leaders
9. Representing CI in the future

With focus on student leaders within CI, ER opens up by explaining they are looking at sabb roles for the future and reducing the number of roles, which could affect student leaders in the future.

DR: There's not much need for the student leaders to be voted in by the whole student population, i.e. media heads

DR: Have as part of election period but only those reigstered with the Union Group / Society can vote or any Media Group due to the close nature of working

ER: Performing Arts Officer should be fully classed as a student leader position - reflects the responsibilities and raises profile of role

ER: Should there be a media officer to attend CI zone to represent all media heads, negating the need for all to attend?

JB: Media officer not needed or relevant as the role might become a bit disjointed as the year goes on depending on who holds the role

DR: Seperate PA and Media discussions from CI zone. DR mentions that most of the media talk would have gone over KT's head. KT agrees.

Decision PA Officer to become Student Leader role within CI (Evie Reilly)
Round up of 17-18
10. What went well?

Freshers'

PA Ball

Media Ball

KT: Very positive year for PA all around

Collaboration between media departments

JB: Publication action / printing plan - print process is now very good and has improved a lot.

11. What could be better?

Elections media coverage was very disjointed - too much was expected of volunteers. No knowledge of who was leading it.

XVH: Surge and other media are very happy to be involved but not delegated and then not part of important discussions such as venue / logistics

Elections Night Live cancelled due to weather / snow

PA:

KT: not enough space for rehearsals. No dance competition here due to Varsity which shouldn't be an issue / clash when it's on a different date.#

MH: Budget issues - overall profit for UF is very healthy however.

XVH: Student leaders to see respective budgets

Action Elections de-brief with those involved (Evie Reilly)
Action Format plan before Christmas for next year's elections coverage (Evie Reilly, Jamie Ford)
12. Handovers

All to plan or in process - to be sent to Evie in addition to new committee position

Freshers'
13. Overall

KT: There wasn't much need for an overarching PA stall at bunfight. Going forward, dance, music and theatre together instead

JB: Union Fayre was the most positive part and many members signed up

MH: Showcase cinemas were present - conflicting interest?

KT: performances stage at other events in addition to bunfight - e.g. Union Fayre, Freshers' Fayre

14. Media Taster

XV: media taster was a very good idea but new ideas on the format would be good going forward for the upcoming freshers'

DR: not the marquee

XV: more advertising in the run up to it - and perhaps not during the actual week itself
