Democracy Assistant

The Democracy Zone is responsible for developing and supporting the Students’ Union constitution, elections and decision making processes. The role will also support the wider democratic processes of the Students’ Union as a whole.

As an assistant for this zone you will support the Coordinator facilitating the day to day administration for the zone, as well as liaising and responding to student enquiries as required. You will also sit within the Policy and Volunteer team, who ensure that all of the Union’s opportunities are inclusive of our diverse student body. 

The main purpose of the role is:

  1. To provide administrative support for the Democracy department
  1. To assist with the democratic processes for the election of all student representatives
  2. To maintain files and records of democratic processes

You will demonstrate a passion for working in a membership led organisation in particular showing a commitment to providing good quality service to the groups you work with and others within SUSU.

This role will support the administrative functions of the Democracy Zone, providing a full service to relevant committees (including the wider Policy & Volunteer team) through attendee invites, agenda creation and minute taking. You will need to have strong communication skills and an attention to detail.

This role is based primarily at our Highfield campus (Southampton) but may, on occasion, require limited travel to our other sites.

All of the above will require a self – motivated and flexible approach to duties and a willingness to support colleagues in order to meet the overall aims of the Policy and Volunteer team and the Students’ Union.
