The SUSU Ambassador role is a new role, replacing the current Fresher Rep System. At the start of each Academic Year, there are over 5000 students who move into Halls for the first time, and for most of them, this will be their first time away from home.
You will be responsible for ensuring these new students are helped to adapt to life at the University of Southampton, through supporting them during the opening weekends, as well as showing them the key areas around the city and the University. You will use your knowledge of SUSU and the University, to ensure that these new students are supported, and sign post them towards the appropriate information and support services.
In addition to this, you will be given the opportunity to join the Bars’ Team, and be given the opportunity to continue your employment after the initial Fresher’s period with them, working alongside current bar staff in the major venues, including The Stag’s and The Bridge.
In your role, you will be expected to:
- Help support the SUSU led social activities, and encourage students to attend
- Provide a good experience for the new students during the Fresher’s Period, and work as a team to solve any potential problems that may occur
- Be able to support the new students integrate into life at the University of Southampton, and provide them with any information to help resolve any issues that they might have.
- Work within the Bars’ Team, following any instructions from managers, and attending any training required
You will be working in a team and will need to be able to coordinate well with others and work as a group to solve any problems. You will also need to be very self-motivated, enthusiastic, approachable and friendly, have great communication skills and be able to use initiative in different situations. A good understanding of the experience and needs of students living in halls would also be relevant to this role.
You do not need to have previous experience of working within the hospitality industry, although this would help.
