About the Communications, Marketing and Technology (CMT) Section

 

Communications, Marketing & Technology

 

The Communications, Marketing & Technology Section (affectionately referred to as CMT) has the simple task of making sure our members know what is going on. It ensures that communications is firmly on the SUSU agenda, as well as delivering marketing services for our activities across the organisation. Responsibility for Technology falls within this team. This is a clear recognition that technology is not just about IT.

 

Our aim is to know our membership and to unlock the potential and enrich the lives of our members through SUSU. We do this by employing innovative, engaging marketing methods, communicating in a relevant way, ensuring two way conversations through various channels, delivering at the cutting edge of technology and media and maximising revenue generation through media sales to external clients.

 

We work to high standards. We seek to provide the processes, systems and shared enthusiasm to support all SUSU departments and officers in achieving their goals and plans.

 

The CMT Team focuses on the following seven areas:

This work is managed through the three teams of Communications, Marketing and Technology which are headed up by the Head of CMT.

 

About the Marketing Team

 

The Marketing team aims to drive SUSU forward by knowing our key audiences better than anyone else and engaging with them proactively. They lead on the implementation of our brand, maximising our opportunities to grow our involvement

 

About the Technology Team

 

The Technology team is responsible for the provision and maintenance of our IT hardware and software, along with developing innovative software solutions to serve our business needs.  They also provide the technical support for our venues and events, including staging and lighting to ensure that our members receive a professional quality entertainments experience.

 

About the Communications Team

 

The newly formed communications team will shape and inform the direction and content of our website, whilst ensuring that we are on trend and up to date in our use of social media. They embrace technological solutions and work closely with our Technology team to enable our members to engage with us,

 

The specialist outputs of the team will include:

 

·       Website structure and design

 

·       Website content

 

·       Social media presence

 

·       Creative use of digital technologies

 

·       Media releases

 

·       PR activities

 

The Communications Team consists of the following staff:

 

·       Communications Manager

 

·       Web developer

 

·       Communications, Marketing and Technology Assistant

 

·       Communications Crew

 

About the Role – Communications Manager

 

Our new Communications Manager role will lead in ensuring that our message is communicated consistently across a diverse range of channels. It involves building and  developing a new team and offers a really exciting challenge for someone who want to work in a vibrant youth focussed organisation.

 

The role will see you to lead in shaping on the structure and content of our website, and you will work with our web developer to ensure that our online functionality is designed around effective communication.  You will advance our use of technical innovations to enable our members to communicate with us online, working closely with the Technology Team and Developer Crew to implement these.

 

You will seek to grow our student, local and national media coverage, using your experience to help you develop a network of contacts.  You’ll act as the key point of contact for incoming broadcast and print media enquiries which at times will include crisis communications. Your role will be key in supporting our elected student officers in representing SUSU in the media.

 

To do all of this you will develop a small flexible team of staff to deliver appropriate content across different media channels.  We are a student lead organisation, and you will devise the structure and support to empower our students to work at the forefront of our communications messaging.  The role offers a unique opportunity to pass on your knowledge to our talented students whilst getting in to the real detail of making our website communicate effective.  If you want an exciting dynamic role to make your own, whilst gaining the satisfaction of developing staff and implementing technological innovation this is the job for you.
