Person Specification
We have described below the range of experience, knowledge, skills and attributes we are looking for. We will use this to manage our selection process and also to identify training needs once in post. We aim to recruit individuals who largely satisfy these:
- Educated to first degree level or equivalent experience
- Proven experience of working in an advice/information giving environment e.g. CAB or independent advice centre
- Proven experience of providing support to a representation function
- Detailed and current knowledge of at least one of the following areas: student finance, student housing, academic issues and international students.
- Knowledge of current issues affecting students and institutions in Higher Education
- Sensitive listening and questioning skills
- Commitment to and knowledge of equal opportunities – including inclusivity and access issues
- Commitment to and passion for the values and purpose of a Students’ Union, including the ability to work in a student led environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present information effectively to a range of different audiences,: to be reflected in written work, formal presentations, informal exchanges with students and colleagues in the university and producing appropriate information and presenting it in different ways.
- Confidence in a range of IT skills; mainly focussed around MS Office and the use of electronic information systems.
- Strong organisational, administrative, planning and team working skills, particularly in relation to the accurate recording of casework
- Ability to monitor, research and analyse complex information with strong numeracy skills to understand statistics and check calculations
- Ability to manage your own time and resources and to work under pressure with minimum supervision but as part of a small team
- Able to maintain key stakeholder relationships
- A clean driving licence would be helpful and able to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends and to visit other campuses as necessary
