Hold more events for Postgrads and Mature students

Complete

It would be great if there were more events for mature students and postgraduates, especially during freshers week so that they can meet others of a similar age. This is especially important because often postgrads or mature students don't live in halls and don't get the same opportunities to meet people as undergrads. Additionally, it would be nice to have events aimed at an older age range given that such a large proportion of the unis students are 21+ and many of the PHD students teach (nobody wants to get drunk with their tutor/student!).

Hi Nikitta,

Thank you for your You Make Change submission.

We actually have our PG Christmas Party event happening tonight in the Bridge from 6pm! It's completely free and the first 200 people will get a glass of acoholic or non alcoholic mulled wine and a mince pie. There will also be live music and magic performances throughout the night and we are asking people to bring items such as tinned food, sanitary products, small toys or clothes to donate to the shoebox appeal.

We also do regular Power Teas for PG students, which is a chance for you to come alogn and get free hot drink and chat to other PG students. The next one of these is happenign next Thursday 13th at the hospital 12-1 and will be Christmas themed. There is also the Quiz and Curry which happens every Sunday in the Bridge which is very popular with PG students.

Additionally, the Doctoral College are doign roadshows across all campuses this week and next week which is a chance for to give feedback about PGR tracker and any other issues you may want to raise as well as getting some festive food. The timetable for this, and all of the events we put on, can be found in the PG Facebook group here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/UnionSouthamptonPostGradCommunity/ If you aren't already part of that group I would strongly reccomend you join as this will be the place where you can most easily access all of the information abotu upcomign PG events.

We have also started a monthly PG newsletter which will be sent out via email and will detail all of the relevant things going on for Postgraduates that month so keep an eye on your email inbox for that!

From January we will also be starting a new PG Breakfast club, where you can come and get a free breakfast and socialise with other PG students as well as discuss a set discussion topic every week. In the summer months we also have PG BBQs every month where you can come and get a free burger.

If there are any other events you would like to see or any feedback you would like to share about anything, you can always drop me an email at vpcommunities@susu.org.

Many thanks,

Emily Harrison

Would mature students get the PG emails or newsletters? I think the point of the above question was about mature students as well. UG Mature students wont recieve any of this information that you have mentioned for PGs as they are not PGs.
