hold (or make Accomodation Services/Student Life hold) a course on how to recycle correctly

Complete

Dear SOSU, during the presessional course I noticed how poorly and wrongly recycling is made in Wessex Lane (but I think is a common problem with other Halls as well). There is plastic or carton garbage in the food bins or materials that could be recycled in the lazy bins.

Therefore I suggest a compulsory course should be held in the first week on the year to teach students who live in the halls how to recycle correctly, since the current online course is not enough.

Indeed, teaching my flatmates in person worked.

Hi Federico,

I have received the following response.

"In halls mixed recycling, food waste and separate glass bins are provided in every flat.  We also have areas externally for donations to the British Heart Foundation at the end of term as well as food donation points.  In addition we provide separate bins for electrical waste as well.  We run Recycling Action Week every year including Halls Roadshow at the start of term to engage students in sustainability and recycling in halls.  We recently gathered further feedback from students in halls on recycling and have implemented new communications and new trials in a number of blocks as a result of this feedback. "

I hope this addresses your concerns, if you would like to get in touch about anything else please email me at vpwelfare@susu.org. In addition, please do attend the next Sustainability Zone meeting - taking place 26th November 1pm-3pm- if you would like to be invovled in sustainability discussions.

Best wishes,

Hi Federico,

Thank you for your submission. I have forwarded your question to the University accomodation team, who will be able to provide a more informed response of what is taking place to improve stuent recycling in Halls- and whether they do any form of training. On receipt of a response, I will get back to you immediately.
