Ballet Society
Welcome to the University of Southampton Ballet Society! We have something for everyone, providing relaxed and fun weekly ballet classes at 4 levels: Beginners, Improvers, Intermediate, and Advanced, as well as Pointe. So, whether you have been dancing for as long as you can remember or are looking to try ballet for the first time, or even if you are just looking for a great way to stay flexible and fit, we hope you come along and get involved. As well as ballet classes, we have an active social calendar with events ranging from visits to the theatre, to nights out, and everything inbetween. Ballet Society members have the opportunity to perform in the university’s annual dance show, Pure Dance, which showcases the work of all the societies across Union Southampton Dance (USD). Hello! Here at USD Ballet, we are your port of call for all things ballet, whether you are a complete beginner or have been dancing for years! All you need is an interest, however big or small, in this beautiful style of dance. We know that lots of newbies feel intimidated by ballet, but we can guarantee that you will fall in love with it, just as all our members have. With the amazing support of our incredible teacher Stacey, and lovely committee members who are always more than happy to offer advice or support, classes with USD Ballet are sure to become your favourite place to be.
Our classes run on Tuesday evenings in the MPS (Multi-Purpose Studio, Student’s Union building) at the following times:
🩰 5:00-6:00pm Beginners
🩰 6:00-7:00pm Improvers
🩰 7:00-8:00pm Intermediate
🩰 8:00-9:15pm Advanced
🩰 9:15-9:45pm Pointe
We can confidently say that whilst we put on high quality classes for you to improve and develop as a dancer, our main aim is to have fun enjoy the escapism of dance. Our classes really do capture the magic of ballet, reigniting the passion for so many of our members, due to the laid-back and cheery atmosphere we’ve worked hard to create in class! Our society is the loveliest group of people and you will no doubt make some of your best friends by coming along and getting involved in all we have to offer.
In addition to our weekly classes, we hold auditions a few weeks into Semester 1 for our Intermediate and Advanced squads, who compete at inter-university dance competitions across the country during Semester 2. Both squads have an amazing history of success at competitions!🏆We also participate in the university’s annual dance show, Pure Dance - this is a brilliant performance opportunity open to the whole of Ballet, alongside the rest of the USD dance societies🎉
As a society, we love dressing up and often have themed classes, namely Christmas and Halloween! We have lots of socials throughout the year too, with a variety of alcohol and non-alcohol events such as theatre trips, meals, drinks, days out and more!

These are the current membership fees offered by Ballet Society, although many clubs and societies offer a free period for new members to try out their activities.
