1. Apologies and Attendance

Chris welcomed everyone to the meeting. 

  • Apologies were received from David Lawrence and Michael Sims.
  • Catriona Rawlins and Natalie Rowell were absent without apologies.

Jamie Wilson (VP Sports Development-elect), Jade Head (student) and Frazer Delves (student) were also in attendance.

2. Approval of minutes from last meeting (Wednesday 4th February)

The minutes were approved by the committee. 

  • Drop in session were held with a few groups attending.
  • The SUSU Bank project has been put on hold due to staff changes within the organisation. 
  • Chris will post on the Facebook group the minibus fee waiver idea and ask for feedback.
Affiliations
3. Affiliations
  • Worldview Southampton: It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. Committee moved to a vote; 2 voted for, and 3 abstained. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to the Sustainability Zone.
  • Southampton University BBQ Society: It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. Committee moved to a vote; 5 voted for. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to the Creative Industries Zone.
  • Multicultural Talk and Weekly Presentation: It was decided that this group did not fulfil the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. Committee moved to a vote; 4 voted against and 1 abstained. This group was not affiliated.
  • Southampton University eSports Society: This group did not attend the affiliation meeting and therefore were not affiliated.
  • Herpetological Society: It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. Committee moved to a vote; 5 voted for. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to the Education Zone.
  • Southampton University Liberal Democrat Society: It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. Committee moved to a vote; 5 voted for. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to the Sustainability Zone.
  • Turk Society: It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. Committee moved to a vote; 5 voted for. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to the Student Communities Zone. The committee asked if they were happy to change their name to 'Turkic Society'; the group were happy to do this. Staff will email this group to request new logo for their page.
  • Engineers without Borders: It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. Committee moved to a vote; 5 voted for. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to the External Engagement Zone.
  • Post Grad Ski Club: This group did not attend the affiliation meeting and therefore were not affiliated.

Jamie Hanna left the meeting.

  • The Travelling Society: It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. Committee moved to a vote; 4 voted for. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to the External Engagement Zone.
  • Southampton University Motorcycle Club: It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. Committee moved to a vote; 4 voted for. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to the Student Life Zone.
  • Southampton and District Young Greens: The committee had issues with the name of this group and asked if the group would be willing to change it; they replied yes. The constitution they emailed in was the constitution for the national group; SUSU require constitutions written for specific student groups and Chris asked them to email an updated constitution. The committee decided to defer the decision of affiliating this group until the next meeting once all paperwork had been looked at.  
  • Accelerate into Banking: This group did not attend the affiliation meeting and therefore were not affiliated.
  • Chamber Opera: It was decided that this group met the criteria outlined in Rule 11, section 2. Committee moved to a vote; 4 voted for. This group was AFFILIATED and assigned to the Creative Industries Zone.
  • WSA Social Football: In a previous meeting, it was decided that duplicates of groups could be affiliated if they were based at Winchester School of Arts. WSA Social Football are a group of mixed students who wish to play football for recreational purposes in Winchester. The committee moved to a vote; 4 voted for. This group was AFFILIATED

Group Requests
4. Zone Changes
  • Southampton Electronic Music Society (SEMSU) have requested to change from Education Zone to the Creative Industries Zone. The committee moved to a vote; 4 voted for. The request was APPROVED. 
5. Support package change
  • Kandyan and Bharata Natyam Dance Society would like to change support package to Yellow. The committee moved to a vote; 4 voted for. The request was APPROVED.

6. Date of the next meeting

The date of the next meeting will be in the new term after the Easter holiday, date TBC.
