Status: Lapsed | Zone: Sports Development

Passed: 04/02/2014 | Lapsed: 04/02/2014

This policy was discussed at the following meetings:

  • Great Britain came second at the Athens Paralympics ahead of USA and Australia, however higher Education in the UK does not reflect this
  • SUSU has begun to raise questions about Disability and Sport, however not nearly   enough awareness has been achieved
  • Southampton University has students with disabilities
  • Sport is about breaking down barriers
  • Sport should actually be ‘FOR ALL’ and not for a select few
  • More can be done to improve access to sport at the University
  • To run at least one disability in sport campaign per term, with actual student          involvement to run in conjunction with the SUSU Equal Opportunities Department
  • To campaign to the University for better access and provision for students with       disabilities, so that they can get as involved with Sport as able bodied students have            been previously
  • For SUSU exec or sabbaticals to attend seminars about inclusion in Sport to have a             better understanding about how to best promote sport for those with disabilities             at         Southampton university
  • To campaign to BUSA for the inclusion of a Paralympics’ sport in their programme
Sorry, there are no Mandates for this policy
