SUSU and University of Southampton 5 Year Development Plan (0809P3)

Status: Lapsed | Zone: Trustee

Passed: 17/11/2008 | Lapsed: 04/02/2014

This policy was discussed at the following meetings:

  • The following extracts from the Laws of the Union:
  • To safeguard and further the educational, social and general interests of its members
  • To afford a recognised channel of communication between students and the rest of the University
  • To further the involvement of students in society and to promote amongst its members and others a greater awareness of educational and social issues
  • That by working in partnership with senior managers in the University, the Students’ Union can engender a real change for its membership that will vastly improve every student’s educational experience
  • That change in any organisation that is the size of the University of Southampton will not happen quickly. The Students’ Union should be prepared to work and fight on behalf of its members to bring about desired changes, and this will often require a coherent message to be put forward over the lifetimes of many elected officers’ terms in office
  • That the Students’ Union should put in a place a five year plan that tackles the key educational issues that students want to see changed to ensure that the Students’ Union voice is heard, acting as a catalyst that lasts longer than the lifetime of one sabbatical term in office and fundamentally changing the way we learn and are taught at this University
  • To mandate the President, Vice President Academic Affairs and Vice President Welfare & Societies to work with the University’s Education Leaders, specifically the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education), to develop a radical agenda and strategic plan to change Learning and Teaching in this University over the next five years, specifically focusing on the following areas;
    (i)   Feedback on Assessment
    (ii)  Transition to learning and living at University
    (iii)Technology and learning
    (iv)Employability in a global market place
  • To mandate the President, Vice President Education & Representation and Vice President Welfare & Societies to conduct an annual review of the progress of the strategic plan and to report their findings to the last Union Council of each year, where Union Council will consider any changes or amendments that may be required
    Sorry, there are no Mandates for this policy
