Proposal on Halls Accommodation for ERASMUS and Exchange Students (0910P6)

Status: Lapsed | Zone: Student Communities

Passed: 04/02/2014 | Lapsed: 04/02/2014

This policy was discussed at the following meetings:

  • That there are 200-300 Erasmus, exchange and visiting students at the University each year
  • Each semester sees a new cohort arriving, with a larger proportion in Semester 1
  • Private rented accommodation contracts are generally at least 6 months long and unsuitable for these students
  • That arriving to study in a new country can be a stressful experience and a lack of suitable student accommodation can exacerbate this stress
  • That Southampton University should provide exchange and Erasmus students with guaranteed Halls accommodation
  • That it is easier for students to be supported by both the Union and the University when they are accommodated in halls of residence
  • That the University should also provide ‘Helpers’ to these cohorts for both Semesters intake
  • To mandate President and International Officer to put pressure on the University to change its policy on accommodation for Erasmus and exchange students
Sorry, there are no Mandates for this policy
