Status: Lapsed | Zone: Democracy

Passed: 04/06/2015 | Lapsed: 08/06/2015

This policy was discussed at the following meetings:

  • A rebrand of SUSU was discussed at Union Council 5 on 30th April
  • One of SUSU’s four values is being student lead
  • SUSU works to represent the Student Voice
  • The Union President and Union President elect noted in policy 1415P22 that “referenda are the most effective forms of direct student involvement in decision making that we have”
  • The brand is the identity of SUSU and core to its image
  • Policy 1415P13 resolves “to engage in regular dialogue with our members, collecting suggestions and communicating progress, to improve their experience when using the Union”
  • Student Consultation is essential and necessary when making such a major decision
  • Any rebrand will have a significant impact on the Union
  • SUSU at its very core is student-led therefore it is important for students to have their say in this decision and make their voices heard
  • Facts, figures and an outline of what a rebrand will involve, including approximate costs, should be made available to students to ensure that they are able to make an informed decision
  • To hold a referendum during the autumn term of the academic year 2015/2016 on whether or not there should be a rebrand of SUSU.
  • To ensure students get all the necessary information about the rebrand in an unbiased way.
  • Democracy Zone Committee to conduct this referendum which would ask the question “Should the Students’ Union have a rebrand?”
  • Sabbatical Officers to remain impartial during the referendum process
  • Democracy Zone Committee to ensure all necessary facts, figures and information about a rebrand and its implications are provided to students in an informative and impartial manner
