  • ‘Fair access to university’ means that people from under-represented and disadvantaged groups are given appropriate support to help them get into and succeed at university
    The Access Agreement submitted each year by the University of Southampton to the Office for Fair Access (www.offa.org.uk/access-agreements/searchresult/?prn=10007158), which explains recruitment targets and financial, academic and pastoral support in place to ensure fair access for people from all backgrounds
    The Union is an integral part of every student’s experience at University, whether they are actively engaged or not
    The University’s Student Success Project is looking at the support given to students from under-represented groups while they are studying
    A diverse student body is essential to for the University to be recognised as a leader in Higher Education

  • In fair access to university for people from all backgrounds
    That the University should work to remove barriers to participation so that students from all backgrounds get the support they need to succeed at university
    Students’ views and experiences should be represented and considered in discussions about ensuring fair access to the University
    Students from all backgrounds should have fair access to activities, opportunities and support provided by the Union and the University
    Academic and pastoral support should be tailored to meet the needs of students from different backgrounds

    The VP Education and VP Welfare to lobby the University to ensure consistent fair access to higher education is a priority across the entire organisation

    All Officers to consider how they can ensure fair access to Union activities, opportunities and support for students from all backgrounds
