Add a lift to the Annex
Philip Hoare submitted on

Complete
I am a disabled student who loves to be in societies and shows. Being a member of multiple performing arts societies who put on performances at the Annex I would like to be involved in the shows but have been unable to. I am putting forward a request for a lift or sufficient ramp to be put into the Annex so that I can join these events and take part.

Hi Philip,
I know I've already spoken to you in person about this but just so anyone else interested can also see -
I have some hopefully very good news for everyone! The proposal for a lift in the Annex has now been approved and funded by the Estates Board at the University. It was only given the green light a few days ago so the timeline isn't set in sone yet, but the idea is that it can be done over the summer ready to be used for the new academic year. I realise this does mean nearly a whole semester without it, but it is really great that this issue will be greatly reduced in future. If you do have any issues in the mean time please get in contact.
Thanks,
Fiona Sunderland, VP Activities 2019-20 (vpactivities@susu.org)

Hi there,
I'm taking over the YMC from Evie. I really agree that allowing accesibility of the Annex is of the upmost importance. In Evie's last email with faculty projects we have been told that they have "a design that would enable the provision of a platform lift in the corridor between the two lecture theatres in the annex. This would provide wheelchair access to the stage area whilst also incorporating a staircase to one side of a new platform lift which enables the route to continue to be used as a fire exit in the event of an emergency.".
This looks like a step in the right direction and I will keep you updated about any further progress.
Many thanks,
Fiona Sunderland (VP Activities)

Hi,
Thank you for your suggestion, I'm currently working with estates and facilities at the University to try and make this happen, and I hope to be able to update you soon on this.
Thanks,
Evie Reilly (VP Demcoracy Creative Indsutries)
