Implement restrictions on running for Woman Officer
I ran for Woman Officer with the goal of implementing this change and stepping down as soon as I can guarantee that a person with more lived experience as a woman than me (a man) can take up the role. The change proposed would mean that only candidates that identify as female (a question already asked in the nomination process) would be allowed to run for the position. It makes no sense that the minor change I was elected on would take until November to implement and that a by-election before Spring can't be arranged. Unless SUSU is comfortable with this role being taken up by a man it would make sense to make these changes as soon as possible and this petition is here to demonstrate popular support.
Responses
Dear Alfred,
Thank you for your submission. This is something which we are working on improving to ensure that appropriate candidates can run for Liberation Officer roles. Unfortunately, changes to the rules cannot be made without approval from the Senate in November. However, this does not mean we cannot work to propose better alternatives to the rules in the meantime. I will be in contact with you shortly to discuss your role further, work on improvements and support you in your role.
Kind Regards,
Avila
