Extend its support for equality and its opposition to modern slavery by supporting the film "I, Coolie" about the indentured Indian women.

I, Coolie is about the indentured Indian women during the 1860s who sailed across the seas from India to Africa. The story has a lot of correlations with modern day themes such as identity and displacement. It aims to give voice to some of the women who have become history-less. This is a female led production and we are currently in the pre-production phase and aim to shoot in August.

There are various sponsorship opportunities, including having the Students' Union named as a sponsor in the closing credits for £100.

Hi David,

Thank you for your idea! The Union has to prioritise students and student projects in what it supports, and the main way that we do this is through clubs and societies, as well as more central projects and campaigns that the Union puts on to support students. However, once the film reaches conclusion, you could perhaps approach Union Films, our student run cinema, to organise a screening, which you could perhaps use as a fundraising opportunity. To get in touch with them simply email uf@soton.ac.uk or look them up on social media.

If you have any more queries relating to this, please feel free to contact me at vpdci@susu.org

Many thanks,

Evie (VP Democracy and Creative Industries)
