As much as the University is a safe, welcoming environment, sometimes students face upsetting incidents. This page contains many of the contacts you can go to when something has happened to you or someone you know.

The Student Hub is the University’s service for student support. They offer free signposting, every day of the year, at any time of the day. They offer 24/7 wellbeing support.

The Advice Centre is SUSU’s support centre. They offer free advice that is independent from the University. Anything you say to an adviser is confidential. They are available from 09:00 – 17:00, Monday – Friday.

Victim Support (Charity) 

Victim Support is a charity dedicated to supporting victims of crime and traumatic incidents, such as violence and assault. They offer support services, such as a helpline, live chat, texting.

If you have been a victim of or witness to crime, you can access support from Hampshire Constabulary.

Karma Nirvana works to end honour-based abuse. They offer resources such as a helpline and counselling for people at risk of honour-based abuse or forced marriage.

The NHS provides a signposting page that details many of the support and resources available to you.

Harassment

The University has a network of trained Harassment Contacts. You can give your contact details and talk to someone, or report an incident. 

Mental Heath Support

If you are struggling with your mental health, you are not alone.

Southampton City Council has a page containing support links for people who have experienced hate crimes and harassment.

Stop Hate UK

Stop Hate UK is a charity that offers reporting tools for hate and discrimination, and supportive tools such as a helpline.

The Islamophobia Response Unit

This charity is specifically dedicated to addressing islamophobia. They offer a reporting system, advisory and conciliatory services.

Community Security Trust

This charity supports people who have experienced antisemitism. They offer an emergency contact number, reporting systems and information on their website

Disability

Scope gives a comprehensive guide on what to do if you have experienced hate. It includes reporting and supportive resources, and specific information like reasonable adjustments.

Gender

Refuge has a page detailing different types of gender-based violence, and the resources you can go to if you have experienced it.

LGBTQ+

LGBT Hero is a charity that focuses on LGBTQ+ wellbeing and addresses hate & discrimination. Their website contains a page on what support is available to you after experiencing hate.

Race

SARI (Stand Against Racism & Inequality) is a charity that addresses racism and inequality. They offer support, advice and signposting.

Your Rights

You have rights as a worker. If these are being violated, you can report them and get advice on how to go forward. 

The GLAA has workers’ rights leaflets, which explain everything you are entitled to as a worker. These are available in 23 languages.

ACAS is a service that helps improve working relationships. You can contact them to get advice about labour exploitation.

SUSU’s Advice Centre offers free, confidential advice independent of the University. You can talk to them about financial matters and discuss options following labour exploitation.
