A Statement From SUSU

It is with immense sadness that we mark the passing of Henry Nowak. Although only in his first year at Southampton, Henry was very involved with SUSU clubs and societies, and we know he will be very much missed by his friends. Those friends include his coursemates, fellow club and society members, students who lived in the same halls as Henry, but also longer-standing friends from home.

We know you will all be feeling huge shock, sadness and disbelief at Henry’s loss, and we send our sincerest condolences to everyone affected by this tragic event. We are here for you and will support you however we can. We know this is an incredibly difficult and painful time, and we encourage you to reach out for support and to check in on your friends.

As well as his friends, our thoughts go out to Henry’s family. We cannot imagine the heartbreak you are feeling, and we send you our most heartfelt sympathies. Henry will be deeply missed by our whole community.

We wanted to end with words from two of Henry’s clubs – Villarrealgorithm CF and Southampton University Football Club, with thanks to them both for giving us permission to share:

“Absolutely devastating to lose someone so funny, kind and talented at such a young age. Henry’s presence on and off the pitch will be sorely missed. A fellow Essex boy and Arsenal fan, I took a liking to him early on, and it is heartbreaking to lose such a funny, and kind- hearted friend so young.

On behalf of the entire society, our thoughts are with Henry’s family and friends in this horrendous time. Henry, in such a short space of time, became such an important member of our team and will never be forgotten”

“He was the kind of lad who, when he walked into a room, instantly lifted the mood. Henry had a big heart and an even bigger personality, and he will be incredibly missed by everyone.”
