Why vote for Ruge?

Hello everyone, my name is Ruger. I am currently a postgraduate student in Music Education at the University of Southampton and an international student. Experiencing university life from an international perspective has given me a deep understanding of what inclusion truly means: feeling welcomed, understood, and valued.

I am warm, enthusiastic, and empathetic, naturally connecting with people from diverse backgrounds, and I genuinely enjoy helping others. I believe inclusive leadership is about care, communication, and commitment.

Since 2025, I have served as a course representative in my faculty. In this role, I actively gathered constructive student feedback, communicated concerns in meetings, and collaborated to find solutions. This experience strengthened my confidence in representing student voices clearly, responsibly, and effectively.

Beyond academics, I also organize informal music exchange activities. Through music, students from different countries share songs, cultures, and stories. These moments create natural dialogue and friendships. I firmly believe that creative spaces can break down barriers and enhance understanding.

If elected as Vice President for Inclusion, I pledge to:

Prioritize access to mental and academic support

Advocate for better consideration of international students’ cultural and language needs in mental health and academic services.

Improve communication channels

Establish convenient feedback opportunities both online and offline so that students can confidently share their concerns.

Make inclusion part of everyday practice

Ensure all union events and activities consider accessibility, fairness, and representation.

Build bridges across communities

Encourage collaboration between domestic and international students through creative and social initiatives, fostering genuine friendships .

Create peer support networks

Promote an International Student Buddy Program to help students adapt academically and socially. I understand the courage it takes to move to a new country, communicate in a second language, or stand up for your own needs.

I have experienced this myself, which is why I care deeply. Inclusion is not just a responsibility，it is a commitment.

If elected, I will listen with empathy, speak up with courage, and act with determination to ensure that international students feel welcomed, safe, and supported on campus.
