Reuben Hinchliffe - Vice President Communities

During my time at Uni I have seen how important societies are to students, primarily through the Hillwalking Club. I have witnessed and experienced how transformative they can be for people and what wonderful opportunities they provide but also the challenges faced by running and organising such things. I want to give back my experience into making sure that SUSU and its systems work at their best to help societies thrive.

If elected I will engage with societies to build on my own knowledge of what works and what doesn’t so that can be taken forth to provide student led changes. Where systems aren't working we should look to see how they can improve them whilst leaving what already works in place.

I also know that housing is a real pressing need. With maintenance loans not having kept track of inflation housing costs can be a real hardship and I want to work with the university to see what changes can be made, including indirectly by improving transport availability and affordability to give a wider range of options for housing, especially for those not based on Highfield.

Above all I will engage with the student body so as to get feedback as to what needs to change and how we can make societies their best.
