Ray Huang - Vice President Inclusion

Hello everyone,

I'm a Master's student in Digital Media Practice, and an active international member of our campus. I'm here today because I believe a strong community isn't just about bringing people together—it's about creating spaces where everyone feels they can join in, contribute, and truly belong.

During my time helping the official social media channels on Campus,  I've had a front-row seat to your stories：Questions, excitement, and sometimes, frustrations. I've seen how students find their people, why some events flourish while others fade, and how small moments of connection can shape our whole university experience. That insight, combined with my background in digital content and cross-cultural projects, drives my approach: build with intention, communicate with clarity, and include by design.

I see community here in three layers: our societies, our wider student networks, and the places we call home. My plan touches each of them.

For our societies, I want to help beyond just promotion. Let's build sustainability—through practical workshops on digital outreach, content planning, and collaboration across groups. Smaller societies shouldn’t have to shout to be heard; I'll work to connect them with resources and audiences so every group can thrive.

In our wider student community, I'll introduce regular, low-pressure ways to mix outside our usual circles. Think rotating pop-up exhibitions between campuses, skill-sharing workshops, and a monthly "Global Living Room"—a casual space to share stories, cultures, and ideas over tea or coffee. Let's make cross-campus and cross-cultural interaction easy and meaningful.

For our residential communities, belonging shouldn't end when class does. I'll partner with hall reps to create welcoming, regular socials, think board game nights, shared meals, or study groups—especially designed to help new and international students settle in. Clear, friendly communication will be a priority, so no one feels out of the loop where they live.

This isn't about adding more events to the calendar. It's about making every existing opportunity more visible, more accessible, and more welcoming. With a blend of creative vision and hands-on experience, I know how to attract attention—and how to turn that attention into lasting engagement.

A vibrant campus isn't built in a day. It's nurtured through consistent, thoughtful moments of inclusion. I'm ready to put that belief into practice to listen, to connect, and to act.
