Why vote for Hayden?

Nursing is a tough course. Rewarding, but tough. My name is Hayden, and I’m studying Adult & Mental Health Nursing. Whether you’re a first-year or final year, we all face common challenges – balancing placement, being at uni for most of the year, and being faced with difficult novel situations. I want to be a part of a Nursing department that really recognises that and ensures that you know where to turn if things become hard.

Nursing offers a community like no other, a kind of trauma bonding I suppose. Every time I hear somebody say ‘I’m a nurse’ you think of their empathy, care and skillset. You think of them as trustworthy and open. Fostering those values and being a part of that community is incredible, and working alongside the department, I would like to make our community stronger and build bonds across all years.

Alongside this, we mustn’t forget the academic part of our degree. It is difficult. The content is challenging, and there is a lot of it, with little time to fit it in. I did the maths, and I am expected to work around 62 hours a week this semester to stay on top of my modules. This needs to change. And advocating for that is something I will do continually.

I will work with you and take on board any feedback and suggestions, advocating for the future of nursing and giving you the best experience possible in your time at university.
