Why vote for Rayan?

Hello all ! My name is Rayan and I'm a first-year BSc Economics student. I believe I am well suited to the role of Student Councillor because I will bring accountability, critical analysis, and sound judgement to the position. My experience in leadership, community service, and student engagement has prepared me to scrutinise leadership effectively while ensuring that students’ voices are genuinely heard and their concerns addressed.

For instance, I have participated in over 40 MUN conferences and served as Deputy Secretary-General of my school’s MUN club from Years 9–11. Such experiences strengthened my ability to represent diverse perspectives, analyse policies, negotiate effectively, and contribute to fair decision-making within the club as well. I also served as Treasurer of my school’s Citizenship Club in Years 7 and 8, where I learned the importance of responsibility, communication on local issues, and serving the wider community.

Beyond leadership roles, these experiences taught me the importance of empathy, patience, and listening carefully before making decisions — qualities that are essential for an effective Student Councillor.

If elected, I will work to hold SUSU Sabbatical Officers accountable through constructive scrutiny, transparency, and regular engagement with students. I will ensure that student concerns are raised clearly, leadership decisions are properly challenged, and students remain informed about how their Union represents them. My aim is to help create a more responsive, transparent, and student-focused Union.
