Why vote for Shashank?
Hello, I’m Shashank and I’m excited to nominate myself for Civil Engineering Department President. I am running for this role because I believe our experience of studying Civil Engineering should be supported by clear guidance, strong communication and meaningful opportunities. I also want to help create a more inclusive environment through events, societies or new ways to connect.
Over this past year, I served as a Course Representative giving me a strong understanding of how the SSLC operates and coordinates feedback. Through this role, I have gained insight into key issues affecting students across different year groups which I will emphasise in meetings and lecturer discussions. My areas of focus are:
- Lecture formatting - not interactive, too much content delivered in a short time, back-to-back lectures
- Provided resources - unclear mark schemes, lack of practice papers, outdated recordings
- Coursework scheduling and formatting - busy periods during exam season, insufficient completion time, feedback returns VERY late
- Software understanding - lack of or no teaching resources, lack of technical support
This past year, SSLC duties were carried out without a Department President leading to confusion amongst new representatives. I am willing to take the leadership responsibilities associated with the role. I am committed to strengthen communication between students with staff and different year cohorts. Most importantly, you should always feel comfortable approaching your Course Representative or Department President with any concerns.
I am passionate for Civil Engineering and will represent you effectively.
Thank you for considering my candidacy.
