Why vote for Hareem?

Student Council exists for one reason, and that is to make this university better for the people who actually live and study here. But that only happens when it runs with genuine transparency, real accountability, and a Chair who takes both seriously. I'm running for Chair of Council because I can see exactly what Council could be at its best, and I want to build that with you, not just for you.

I'm Hareem, a first year Law student, going into my second year, and I genuinely care about making Southampton feel like more than just a place you come to study and leave. I want it to feel like a community. One where students see the direct impact of their voice, where Council decisions are communicated clearly and openly, and where every student, regardless of their background, feels like this institution is working for them.

If elected I will make sure Council meetings are run efficiently and fairly, with outcomes shared publicly so students always know what is being decided in their name. I will actively work to bring underrepresented voices into the room, because a Council that doesn't reflect its student body isn't really representing anyone. And I will push hard for the kinds of initiatives that bring students together across faculties, year groups and communities because that sense of belonging makes a real difference to people's lives here.

The Chair sets the culture of how Council operates. I want to set a culture of openness, follow through and genuine ambition for what student governance can achieve. Students should feel that engaging with Council is worth their time. I will make sure it is.

Vote Hareem for Chair of Student Council.
