Kate Burrans - Midwifery Department President

Since being elected as Midwifery Department President, I have developed a clear understanding of the role and the challenges midwifery students face. I have built strong working relationships with department presidents across the school, allowing us to share ideas and collaboratively address student concerns. I have also contributed to changes of school-wide modules, ensuring midwifery student perspectives are represented in decisions that impact us all. I am currently developing an initiate to share positive rotational placement experience for students preparing to go to a new Trust, to reduce anxiety and improve confidence through the transition. If re-elected, I will focus on improving communications across all year groups, ensuring students feel heard and receive regular updates on actions taken from the SSLC’s. I would also like to explore different ways you give feedback, to avoid you always needing to fill out a form. With the support from our new Director of Student Experience, I am confident my ability to continue representing midwifery voices will continue as I further progress in the role.
