Why vote for Andrew?
My name is Andrew Kume, and I’m proud to be re-running for Civil Engineering Department President. Over the past ( half) year, I’ve worked to represent and support Civil Engineering students, and I want to continue building on that progress to ensure every student feels heard, supported, and prepared for the realities of this demanding profession.
Civil engineering is practical, challenging, and career-focused, and our department should reflect that. Throughout my time in the role, I’ve seen where students need stronger support, particularly in career development, communication, and workload balance. Career preparation remains my top priority because many students still feel underprepared for industry expectations after graduation. I want to continue strengthening the connection between our degree and real-world engineering practice through greater industry engagement and practical opportunities.
I also want to keep pushing for improvements to the learning environment and ensure student concerns around assessments, lab resources, and teaching quality are properly listened to and acted upon. Strong communication between students, lecturers, and staff is essential to creating a supportive and effective department.
I bring dedication, reliability, and experience in representing Civil Engineering students, and I remain committed to ensuring student voices shape key departmental decisions. Together, we can continue building a department that truly prepares every student for success in industry.
