James Baines - Chair of Council

Hi,

My name is James, a placement year engineering student going into my fifth year, and I am running to be your Student Council Chair for 2026/27.

As chair, I will ensure Student Council runs smoothly, efficiently, and in line with SUSU's values. I will work to hold our Sabbs to account, making sure they deliver on their plans and that student voices are heard and acted on within SUSU. 

I am passionate about making sure every student can engage with Council and have their say on the issues that matter. I will always act fairly, communicate clearly, and make sure Council is open, effective, and accountable.

As Chair, I pledge to:

• Ensure Council is well managed, transparant and effective. 
• Hold our Sabbs accountable for their progress and decisions
• Promote engagement so every student can contribute to key issues

I have been a student rep since 2022 and have experience as a course rep, department president and student councillor, so I have the experience you can trust to keep the council working well.
