Why vote for Isobel?

I’m standing for Student Trustee because I want to help make sure the Students Union makes smart, responsible decisions that genuinely improve students’ experience at Southampton.

The Students Union plays a huge role in university life. It shapes societies, activities, representation, opportunities and support that students rely on every day. Because of that, the decisions made at Trustee Board matter. They should be transparent, financially responsible, and focused on what will create the greatest positive impact for students both now and in the future.

Having previously run for SUSU President, I already have a strong understanding of student priorities and the issues that matter most across the student body. Speaking with students from different courses, societies and communities gave me a clearer picture of what students want from their Union — meaningful representation, more support, good communication from staff and the university, and decisions that make a real difference to everyday student life. That experience also gave me a better understanding of how SUSU operates and the responsibility that comes with helping shape its direction.

What appeals to me most about this role is the opportunity to contribute to the Union’s long-term strategy. I want to help the Union make responsible decisions that balance ambitious changes with reality.

I have previously managed a charity’s finances, which gave me experience in budgeting, setting spending priorities, and making responsible decisions with limited funds, which I think will help me in this role.

As Student Trustee, I would bring a thoughtful, balanced and collaborative approach. I want to help keep the Union accountable, financially strong (and not in a deficit!) and focused on what matters most to students, so SUSU can continue to make student life more fun!
