Why vote for Abdul?
I want to be a Student Councillor because I believe students should have a genuine voice in the decisions that affect their university experience.
As an Aerospace Electronic Engineering student, I understand the day to day experience of studying at Southampton, from teaching and assessments to labs, group projects and balancing university life alongside everything else. Through my Internship at student experience in the student hub, I have experience working with staff and compiling key trends and themes from SSLC meetings across different schools and the University, giving me insight into the issues and experiences raised by students.
If elected, I want to be someone students can actually approach. I will listen to concerns, make sure they are properly represented, and keep students informed about what is being raised and what is being done about it. I particularly want to improve communication around opportunities, support and feedback, so students don't miss out simply because they didn't know something was available.
I also want to make sure that feedback leads to action rather than simply being collected. Where students identify problems, I will work with the relevant staff and representatives to push for practical solutions.
I won't pretend to know every issue students face, which is why listening will be at the centre of my role. If elected, I want to be a councillor who is approachable, proactive and willing to turn students' ideas and concerns into meaningful change.
