Libby Bird - Student Councillor

As an Ancient History and Archaeology student, ethics and accountability are central to how I approach my subject and the responsibilities that come with it. I believe this same sense of accountability is essential when representing students and ensuring their voices are heard to create change. Throughout my school career, I have been a student councillor and a Head Girl where I gained experience leading meetings, listening to concerns and communicating students views. However, I often saw ideas for improvement go unnoticed or changes being implemented without considering their wider impact on students. Rather than allowing this to continue, I want to use my experience to make student representation more effective. As a student councillor, I would aim to ensure concerns are properly communicated and translated into practical improvements. I want students to feel that raising an issue can genuinely make a difference, while working collaboratively with the Sabbatical Officers to create a university experience that is inclusive and enjoyable to everyone’s needs.
