Why vote for Amel?
As a student of languages and cultures, I'm deeply interested in the diversity and representation of this university. Being someone vocal about my own culture (one-third North African), I love that there are many opportunities for students to learn other languages and experience other cultures through the various modules that Southampton offers. However, I strongly believe that we do not do enough of this. If I were elected, I would make sure that there is more of a connection between students and staff. For instance, I would encourage bi-weekly cultural pop-ups, where students would come forward to speak about their heritage and other students could gain insight into their traditions. Additionally, I'm interested in improving the language societies by diversifying their socials, i.e. eating out at a French restaurant or a cultural bingo. I would be well suited as I have experience working amongst young adults like me, so I have a lot of empathy for the worries and concerns of students. I also have a humble personality, meaning that I don't want to be above anyone. I'm hoping that students feel confident enough to reach out to me as their peer rather than an individual they don't know.
