Freya Keable - Physics and Astronomy School President

Hi everyone, my name is Freya Keable, and I am running to be your Physics and Astronomy Department President. Despite only being in my second year of study at Southampton, I still believe that I have enough experience to represent you, having spent the past year as both a Student Ambassador and Course Rep.

As your president, my main goal is to make sure that every student feels heard and supported, whether you’re an undergraduate or postgraduate student. During my Course Rep term, I listened to your academic concerns, liaised with the faculty, and pushed for real change. Now I want to take that a step further.

If elected, I will focus on three key areas:

1. Creating opportunities for students to feedback to staff; I’ll encourage course reps to keep in close contact with their cohort and push for a more open system where students feel more able to reach out and speak for their needs.
2. Facilitating a stronger community within the department by working with societies and centrally to improve connections between and within year groups.
3. Ensuring that diverse voices are actively represented in department committees and consultations to support students from all backgrounds.

I am dedicated to developing a collaborative relationship between students and staff, and I have the experience necessary to effectively navigate university systems. Let’s work together to make this academic year our best yet.

Please vote Freya Keable for Physics and Astronomy President!
