Why vote for Charlotte?

Hi, I’m Charley, and I’m standing for History Department President because I’m passionate about history and about making sure students have a clear and effective voice within the department.

Having worked as a Course Rep, I’ve seen how valuable student representation can be, but also how distant the system can sometimes feel. My first priority would be to make representation more visible and easier to access. I would organise regular, accessible opportunities for students to speak with Course Reps, while making it clearer who representatives are, what they do, and how students can raise issues.

I also want students to hear what happens after they give feedback. I would work with Course Reps and staff to provide clear updates on concerns raised, discussions taking place and changes being made.

Academic experience needs to be the main focus. I would raise student views on assessments, feedback, module choices; real issues students face. Focusing on practical improvements that help students understand expectations and develop their work.

History should also feel like a community. I would encourage more opportunities for students across different years and areas of History to meet, share ideas and engage with talks, events and activities, including collaboration across Humanities where it’s useful.

Finally, I want representation to be inclusive and approachable. Whether an issue affects one student or many, everyone should feel able to raise it and know that it will be taken seriously.

My aim is simple: strong representation, better communication and a vibrant History community!
