Sabrina 'Sabrina' Yan - Music Department President

I am a MMus Music Education student with a background in vocal performance, music education and ensemble work. Throughout my studies, I have taken part in performances, choir rehearsals, group projects and teaching music to others. I have also had experience organising performances and working as part of a team. These experiences have taught me the importance of communication, organisation and supporting the people around me.

I am interested in becoming Music President because I would like to get to know more students across the Music community and become more involved in university activities. As an international student, I also understand that students from different backgrounds may have different experiences and concerns. I would like to help create more opportunities for students from different Music courses and backgrounds to connect with each other.

If elected, I would like to focus on listening to students and making sure their feedback can be communicated clearly to staff. I would also like to help students become more aware of opportunities such as performances, internships, careers events and other activities within and beyond the university.

I see the role as a bridge between students and staff. I am someone who enjoys listening to others, organising things and helping to solve problems. I would aim to communicate students’ concerns clearly and constructively, while also helping staff understand students’ experiences. For me, leadership is not about standing above a group, but being part of it, listening carefully and taking responsibility for helping things move forward.
