The society provides the opportunity to learn or practice Irish Dancing and offers classes covering group ceili, soft shoe, and hard shoe for all abilities. We offer classes every Friday, and anyone is welcome regardless of experience, to take part in sessions of light and heavy styles, taught by a qualified teacher. We are also aiming to hold workshops throughout the year taught by professional dancers from the industry themselves or previous society members. The Irish Dance Society is part of USD (Union Southampton Dance) and holds auditions for a Competition Squad which competes all over the country for the university. We also take part in Pure Dance, a university-wide dance show held in March each year giving members the opportunity to show off their skills learned all year in team dances choreographed in class, and performed in front of a large audience. The classes we hold are laid-back, fun and perfect for students with no experience in dance or in this particular style, or for those of you who have danced throughout their lives and want to continue their passion, whilst making new friendships and becoming part of our dance family. Come along and try us out, as one of the fastest growing dance societies on campus!!

Welcome to Southampton University's Irish Dance Society!

The Irish Dance Society was founded in May 2014 and members will have the opportunity to learn different styles of Irish Dance, including soft-shoe, hard-shoe, and ceili group dancing, taught by a qualified Irish Dance Teacher, alongside various workshops throughout the year. We welcome dancers of any ability, whether it is your first time trying Irish Dance, or you've been dancing for years!

We perform as part of USD's annual show 'Pure Dance' where we showcase several routines we have rehearsed over the year, alongside the other Southampton University Dance Societies.

In addition, there is an opportunity to audition and be part of a competition squad, who compete at inter-university competitions across the country, throughout the academic year!

The Irish Dance Society also holds fun socials from nights out, to pizza evenings, theatre trips, workshops and many more, alongside joining the rest of USD (Union Southampton Dance) on the wider dance socials.

Classes will be held on Friday evenings in the Multi Purpose Studio in the Students Union (Floor 1)

Light Shoe - 6pm-7pm

Heavy Shoe - 7pm-8pm

Competition Squad - 8pm-9/10pm

A single class costs £3.50 for non-members and £2.50 for members. Staying for both Light and Heavy shoe is only £1 more so we thoroughly encourage it!
