Founded in 1976, as Radio Heffalump in the F-Block in Glen Eyre, almost 50 years later, we broadcast 24/7 during term time. With our Alumni working for companies such as Sky, Global, the Brit Awards and the Telegraph, Surge Radio has won mutliple awards in Student Radio.

How much is it to join?  FREE!
How do I tune in?  We broadcast online at surgeradio.co.uk and on-campus in B42
Is there any experience required?  No! We teach you everything: from OfCom requirements, how to do record demos for the industry, link composition, editing social media content etc.
Is it open to everyone?  Yes! One of Surge's missions to allow all students, from all degrees to have oppourtinies and pathways into media..
Where is the Studio?  In the SUSU building just next to below deck on Level 2! [B42/2606]
Do I have to present?  Whilst we normally encoruage it, you are welcome to pair up with someone else to present a show or produce one (I.e operate the sound desk, pre-record and plan segements/shows
How much work is involved?  Depends on your experience. From my [Theo] experience, planning a show took me 2 hours to begin and I managed to get that down to one hour. This includes planning segments, links and gathering music. Additional hours depend on pre-recorded stuff and the length of your show.

Membership Information

These are the current membership fees offered by SURGE, although many clubs and societies offer a free period for new members to try out their activities.
