Pre-sessional Project Helper
About the role
These positions are only open to current University of Southampton students.
Pre-sessional Helpers get the chance to meet a whole new group of students over the summer vacation (end of June to September) and help them to integrate into University life in the UK. Pre-sessional students take part in an intensive course to ensure that they have a high enough level of English to start their degree course in October. You’ll be helping to deliver a social programme throughout the summer which will include sports, evening events and day trips, giving the student’s time to relax and helping them get used to British culture.
In your role you will be expected to:
- Help support the social activities and encourage students to attend;
- Provide a good experience for the Pre-sessional students during their time on the course and work as a team to solve any potential problems that may arise;
- Be able to support the Pre-sessional students integrate into university life in the UK and provide them with information to help resolve any issues they might have.
For most of the project you will be working in a team and will need to be able to coordinate well with others and work as a group to solve any problems. You will also need to be very self-motivated, enthusiastic, approachable and friendly, have great communication skills and be able to use initiative in different situations. A good understanding of the experience and needs of international students would also be relevant to this role.
