About the role

Could you play an important leadership role in one of the largest students’ unions in the UK?   Are you looking for a role helping over 23,000 students to enrich their lives?

If you are, The University of Southampton Students’ Union would like to hear from you.

The University of Southampton Students’ Union (SUSU) has members from many different backgrounds, and represents the voice of students on issues at local, national and international levels. SUSU also provides important services to its members, including great value amenities and facilities, free and confidential advice and support and a whole range of exciting opportunities to have fun and socialise.

All of this student-led activity gives our members a unique opportunity to make things happen, create important friendships and develop skills for life.

Chief Executive

As our new Chief Executive you would work very closely with the Union President, the other Sabbatical Officers and our Board of Trustees to deliver the important next steps in our strategic development. SUSU has many opportunities for growth and development over the coming years; both in terms of creating new services and impacts that we provide for our members, but also in the fostering of relationships between different areas of the University, local community and other youth organisations.

Working with our strong senior leadership and staff team, you have the chance to develop further the positive culture for our student officers where they are inspired and challenged to think big; and where other organisations respect our fundamental place in the Southampton community; and to promote our inclusive and welcoming workplace where staff are valued and invested in so that SUSU becomes a local employer of choice.

SUSU has a turnover of about £7m, and employs 400 full-time and part-time staff and provides facilities for students in multiple locations.

Whilst experience of working in a student-led organisation is desirable, it is also likely that senior managers from other sectors would fit the bill.
